The Houzz website (www.houzz.com.au) is a wonderful platform for home owners to find inspiration and collect images for their own renovations. Recently, the editorial team looked at the most popular photos of bathrooms of 2019 and compiled a users’ wish list, in which we were proudly featured (photo above). Here is a glance of bathroom tendencies based on the most saved photos.
Glamorous Bathrooms:
We’re having more fun in bathrooms, as it’s no longer just a utilitarian room in the house. Is a space we retreat and relax in. A selling point of a house. A wow point. A place to be talked about, not just to be used.
Storage, storage and more storage:
Storage is key. We need plenty of room to have all the products we use on a daily basis. For a powder room, or guest bathroom, just the essentials are required so enough room for toilet paper rolls, hand towels, soap, air freshener, etc. For en-suites and family bathrooms, mirror cabinets are essential, and if possible adding a custom made tallboy is ideal.
Decorative tiles:
We’re slowly moving away from white bathrooms towards more risk taking, colourful bathrooms. And this includes using beautiful decorative floor tiles. Intricate cement tiles, with inspiration from Spain, Turkey, Italy and Greece between other countries. And not only decorative floor tiles, but also smaller tiles. Yes large format tiles are still widely used and go extremely nice in ultra-contemporary bathrooms, but there’s something so unique and homely about the smaller, hand made tiles that just grabs your attention.
Once you go black….:
Black is a trend that is becoming more and more popular and is not going anywhere any time soon. From black tiles and joinery to black tapware to lights. Black fixtures and fittings can take any bathroom into the 21 century and give it that wow factor.
Lighting to encourage well-being:
Gone are the days of bathrooms with just the one ceiling light or fluorescent lights. Now we see a lot of gorgeous sconces, very well placed downlights, pendant lights and even strip lighting in shower niches or under vanities. Lighting is one of the most important parts of planning a bathroom these days. Not only does the lighting need to be functional (for makeup application) but it also has to provide ambiance and be conducive of relaxation.
